Mittie Mae (Ferguson) Cobb was born to Amanda Irene (Robinson) and Barnett Marion Ferguson on Oct. 7, 1921, in Leona. She died peacefully at her daughter’s and son-in-law’s home in Austin on June 10, 2018. She was 96 years of age.
As a young woman, Mittie moved to New Braunfels and worked at the Comal Cottons textile mill. There she met Cecil Cobb, and they married on January 30, 1943. Mittie and Cecil raised their three children in New Braunfels, while employed at the mill.
Mittie was active at the Eastside Baptist Church in New Braunfels as a leader of the Girls Auxiliary and Youth for Christ. She instilled values of communi-ty service and volunteerism through activities such as food drives, visiting nursing homes, and door-to-door fundraising for March of Dimes.
Mittie and Cecil moved to Mexia in the early 1970s to train employees for the opening of a new textile mill. After the Mexia mill closed, they both retired to their “home in the country” in Shiloh, where they enjoyed farming and fishing.
Mittie loved living in Shiloh, and she found her spiritual community in the Shiloh Church of Christ. She remained in Shiloh after her husband Cecil passed away in 2002, until moving to Austin in 2012. She enjoyed living in-dependently in Austin at the Claremont retirement community, until coming to live in her daughter’s home when her health declined in November 2016.
Mittie shared with all who knew her a kind spirit and good sense of humor. She enjoyed time spent visiting with family and friends above all else. She was much loved, and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Cobb; four brothers Quincy, Marion, Lloyd, and Leonard Ferguson; and her much-loved son in law William (Billy) Mooney.
She is survived by her three children Joe Cobb, Lynda Mooney, and Gloria Rohlich; her daughter-in-law Lucille Cobb and son-in-law Martin Rumbaugh; her grandchildren and great -grandchildren, and her large ex-tended family.
Visitation will take place at Corley-Porter Funeral Home in Mexia from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday June 17. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 18 at the City Cemetery in Leona, followed by fellowship at the Leona Community Center.
An online guest book is available at www.corleyporterfuneralhome.com and by selecting the Mittie Cobb obituary.
Corley-Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
