DeWayne Lee “Mr. Call Cats” Hauth passed away on May 20, 2018, in Mexia, at the age of 84. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, at Blair-Stubbs Chapel, with Ms. Melissa Purdon officiating.
DeWayne Lee Hauth, son of Quannah and Goldie Hauth, was born at Clear Lake, Okla., on Jan. 22, 1934. He attended high school at Laverne, Okla., followed by a business management course in Oklahoma City. He was married to Joyce Ann Shepherd on Dec. 25, 1954. They became the parents of twin boys, Russell and Rodney, of Dallas. They were later divorced.
His life was characterized by work from an early age. In 1969, he and Curly Corwin started Oilfield Construction businesses in Enid, Okla., and were very successful until the oil crash in 1986, when those businesses failed. He immediately started another company and expanded his territory into Southern Oklahoma, then Texas. DeWayne came to the Mexia area in the late 1990s, when he started Call Cats and Texas Call Cats, which were primarily rock hauling and rock leasing companies. In January of 2011, he was one of three partners that started Jacloc and received a patent for the automated trailer locking system. He later bought out those partners. In early 2017, after a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, he shut down the trucking businesses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by Lester Ray Hauth, Jeanetta Fay Diss and Levina Dell Spurgeon.
DeWayne is survived by his younger brother, Wiley Earl “Buzzy” Hauth, of Woodward, Okla.; his two sons and their wives; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also mourned by his longtime companion, Bonnie Duke, of Mexia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to a charity of choice.
